Murray Hill Residents Association
The Association was founded in 1981 due to concern about development on West Street.

I am a founding member and served successively as a Board Member, Vice President and President. During my tenure as President (1987-1989) the Association:

FAVORED BALANCED APPROACH
in supporting construction of Gotts Court Garage but successfully advocated limiting height of garage to protect scale of buildings along West Street. “The (Murray Hill) Association’s position reflects an attempt to reconcile two objectives: preservation of the Historic District and revitalization of West Street” (Partial headline, The Capital [3.4.88]- Guest column by Richard Israel)

OPPOSED COMMERCIAL ENCROACHMENT
into residential area by informing city officials and residents of valid and enforceable covenants that had been overlooked. “I wish to call to your attention that certain property owned by the Capital and rezoned from residential to mixed use is subject to longstanding residential covenants.” (Excerpt from 10.14.87 letter to Director, Planning & Zoning)

PROMOTED CITIZEN PARTICIPATION
by establishing advisory panel to work with city and county personnel on renovation of the Weems-Whelan Athletic Fields behind Maryland Hall.
